Case of the Month

History: Patient was referred for consult on tooth #17 . Patient has been in discomfort for 2 months, pain to cold, hot, chewing and biting. Tooth is the D retainer for a clasped RPD.

Testing: Ice test had a severe long lingering response. slight pain on release to bite test. No pain to percussion or palpation. Radiographs: on radiograph it shows no apical changes or pathosis, severely curved roots, existing deep amalgam filling with base.

Dx: Irreversible pulpitis secondary to occlusal load or small crack.

Recommendation: Recommend Root Canal Treatment #17 with possible extraction.

Final: Tx was accomplished successfully with no complications. Patient is scheduled for routine follow-up in 6 months.
